resigned to dust, don't pity us

a few snapshots from a temporary exhibit at The Academy of Natural Science. it's a collection of some of the specimens that have been in the museum since its founding, very cool stuff. highly recommend it if you find yourself with a free day in philadelphia, and aren't squeamish about taxidermy/specimens. they also have a shelter for rescued "exotic pets", and you can even buy presents for them for their birthdays and christmas.

almost real

i have been absolutely in love with these hunting camo fabrics. imagine shirts, trousers, mini dresses, the options spread out before me. i grew up in a community where seeing a truck full of people all decked out in this stuff, its very nostalgic for me, and i probably won't be able to keep away from even attempting some kind of jumper or jumpsuit in this. Which might cross the line, but no ones there to say no.

All photos are samples from the RealTree web site *all fabrics are manufactured in Georgia!*

and a buckle or two

Recently ive been really into uhm, foot shaped shoes? I'm not sure exactly what you would call the shape, but I have seen it a lot in japanese magazines, where the left and right "toe" part is very toe shaped. i briefly looked into where I could purchase such shoes, but found no online stores. after pining for a bit, i remembered where I had seen the shape before:

Birkenstocks!

i never really considered them as a candidate for my wardrobe, but here I am coveting $300 worth of  hippie cork and leather. also i love the fact that they are super repairable, and I'm almost sure that when I do need a new pair of shoes, those cute desert boots will probably be #1 on the list.

fingers crossed

while ill definitely need more than luck and hope, I'm feeling pretty good, considering how nicely this particular project is going. for a while I was hesitant on how to introduce black when I knew there were going to a lot of creams and pale greys... But I think I nailed this, it's the perfect bridge. I also think I've begun to pin down my core aesthetic, something akin to mori girl, but sharper, cleaner. if I had to associate myself with any "design movement", I think it would be the interior design style known as rustic minimalism.

very satisfied, this will be up for sale when I'm ready to do a shoot. it's pretty free sized, but if you are interested feel free to contact me. ive also got a cream version in a vintage silk with charcoal print and henley placket. really getting into my groove now, so happy.

super chunky

i had an assignment recently that called us to pick a single skill that could be magically bestowed on us, whatever skill we wanted. i chose musical talent, but on second thought, ive wanted to knit my whole life. Ive experimented quite a bit in it, but cant seem to get though the learning curve before my patience wears out. at this point im happily resigned to letting these pros do their thing.

yokoo gibraan - she also has an amazing clothing brand, xMOTHERx

on the flipside, im having trouble letting go of what i was taught in design school.. i can't seem to grasp my own freedom, and trust myself not to plan everything ahead so im *sure* everything matches. dear skylure, its not about that anymore. everything you has the same aesthetic anyway, why don't you just chill out and go with the flow.

i dont know, but im trying! im trying to let go, let sketches be just sketches and let the clothing bring itself together. my new goal is to try to have enough stock to do some shooting, so i can open a storenvy, deadline is next semesters start.

transfiguration

what I did in the studio today. also, experimenting with a three hole button, wondering if there's an obvious reason why they aren't used much already. anyway, i love the feel of these against the fabric, definitely worth the effort.

hello out there

I noticed a few days ago that there is a daily pattern I've gained, since I found my watch.

I found it hanging on a fence, at a time when I needed it most. I wear it everyday, it usually goes on before I get dressed or brush my teeth. It's become my most important foreign appendage. But, it's the first thing I take off when it's quitting time. Indispensable when I'm in work mode, unnecessary at best when I'm relaxing. Anyway, I'm not sure why I thought that would be good as an introduction to me, but there it is. So again, hello, I'll be seeing you.
